SET FENDERS

SETTING FENDERS

For comfort you will require to set the fenders so that the stirrups hang at the right angle to them. First adjust the stirrup leathers to the correct length and then wet the reverse side of the fenders with luke warm water. You need to dampen them enough to allow the fibres in the leather to stretch when you then either lay the saddle on the floor with the fenders out on each side, bend, weight and allow to dry slowly or set the saddle on a stand, twist the stirrups and hold in position with a brush shaft whilst drying. Depending on how well you do this it may help to put a pole through the stirrups when the saddle is stored therefore keeping the set.

There is another way to set fenders by wrapping around the stirrup leather above the stirrup but this requires the blevins buckle being installed in reverse and is better installed at the time of manufacture.
